Star Trek: A Night of Perfection

So I just had one of the best nights and here is how it went down:

I get regular emails from Alamo Drafthouse and earlier this week they sent me one about a free screening of the Wrath of Kahn, one of the greatest Star Trek movies, with a ten minute clip of the new Star Trek movie, so I was pretty interested, but didn't really know anyone else to go with. At meeting I mentioned in and Rachel was into it, so we decided to go, totally last minute, but destined by fate. We arrived and there was a stand-by line for us lonely commoners and a line for fantastic fest 2009 (wish I could go, but probably will no longer reside in texas). After much anticipation we got to the front and were allowed access, missing the cut off by a only about fifteen people. They took all cameras, cell phones and any electronic equipment, which was a little odd considering it was only supposed to be a ten minute preview, but didn't think much of it and went inside with my free popcorn and drink. We were only able to get seats in the far corner of the first row, which at first seemed horrible but turned out to be the greatest thing for us! Tim League begins introducing the movie and as I look over I notice a pair of glasses. I shook my head thinking that it couldn't be him, did a double take, and yes it was Damon Lindelof. (Side note: for anyone who doesn't know he is a writer and executive producer on Lost and one of my idols. Considering he is associated with Lost should be clue enough to my obsession, but it totally goes beyond that into being obsessed with him...seriously though listen to the podcasts he is hilarious!) I squeezed the crap out of Rachel's leg with excitement and pure adrenaline seeing the one person I have wanted to meet, but never thought I would. Then him and the other two writers, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (who I just now realized wrote for Alias and Fringe which makes me even more giddy) got onstage to say a few words and then the opening credits of Wrath of Kahn begin. Then the picture cuts out and as we assume it is a bulb, Tim goes back to take a look. The writers get back onstage and start talking about doing a Q&A and of course someone mentions Lost which made my day. Then out of nowhere a figure in a trench coat walks up onstage carrying a film canister. It was LEONARD NIMOY!!! The audience went insane with delight and wouldn't not stop screaming and clapping for quite a while. Eventually we died down and Leonard is like I'm surprised you all just want to see ten minutes of the film....who would rather see the whole thing?! So of course everyone jumps out of their seats and goes apeshit! Then we got to see the entire new Star Trek film, 5 weeks before it is being released and a few hours before the people at the true premiere in Sydney Australia (where JJ was) got to see it. We were the first ones to see it!!! As the writers walked offstage Rachel ran up to the writers and got autographs so I called out to Damon and asked him for one (and eventually got the other writers too) and he pleasantly obliged saying it was no problem. I, usually, am as cool as a cucumber around celebrities as other people can attest to, but with Damon I totally lost it (no pun intended) and reverted into a 12 year old squeeling girl. I told him I was his biggest fan and that everything he does is amazing. He signed my paper and thanked me and told me to enjoy the show and shook my hand. It MADE MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!

The movie itself is amazing! I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone, even those who aren't familiar with the Star Trek franchise, it is a great film filled with plenty of action and humor. For those of you who are Trekkies, you will be ecstatically pleased. The movie plays perfectly with the mythology and all the references to the classic star trek are spot on. Every single character was cast perfectly and did a great job living up to their predecessors. I think my favorite was Karl Urban as McCoy...he was hilarious and spot on! I am so pumped for the sequel now I can't wait!!! And now after an adrenaline filled night, I will not be able to sleep for a lonnnggg time. The only thing that would have made this night better would have been being able to bring in cameras, but no worries, I will always have this in my head! Also loved at the end Leonard Nimoy got back on stage and was like I can't leave without saying it...Live Long and Prosper :) :) :)

Lack of Round-uping

Fun weekend was had, but no thanks to round-up. Sarah and I spent lots of quality time. Friday we went kayaking in the beautiful weather, got Chuy's for dinner, and then spontaneously flew some kites she conveniently had in her trunk. Random outdoor activities make me so happy! Then we rented House Bunny and watched that plus some Golden Girls. Saturday we 'studied' and then watched Aladdin, got some delicious but crowded Dirty Martins, then watched the Notebook instead of going to the frat parties. I'm kind of glad we didn't go, I like chill nights. Sunday we got to see Brogan and Jessica at Abels, which was so fun! Now its time for crazy studying for hell week of tests. I can't wait for Stephen Lynch!

Sad Songs

I'm being a sap and listening to all the graduation/goodbye/friendship/sad songs I can find. So distracted am I by these songs I haven't even eaten dinner yet. I just can't believe the end of yet another chapter of our lives is coming so soon. Anyways I do have a purpose, I'm trying to put together some good songs for our senior slideshows!! Usually I do a mix of happy and sad, but I'm not gonna lie these are going to be working hard for the tears. Does anyone have any suggestions for good slideshow songs or specific ones that remind you of this our senior year?

Weekend Adventures

This is by request of Sarah...sorry I suck at updating.

This weekend was a good time although not the good time that was supposed to happen. Basically I love my friends but they suck at planning things and following through. So Thursday instead of dinner with Melinda who was supposed to be in town, I went to Abels with Vanessa, Sarah, Sarah, Jennifer and Emily..The James is amazing, my new favorite sandwich!! Then Caty and Steggy joined us for a little bit. Then I went with sam and had a fishbowl for the first time at hula hut. 2 tx teas and a fishbowl=too much liquid! Then we ended up going downtown for more drinks and fun times. I had a good time, but 6th is kind of losing its charm. Then friday we had game night with sam, me, josh and richard. It was fun, I'm glad we stayed in and had a chill night. A little ridiculous how well Richard and I still know each other, I think he was the only one I got everything right for. Then saturday Melinda was in town so we went to the basketball game for her high schoolers, then went to abels so I could get..you guessed it...another James! Then Lisa and I went to do a little shopping while Melinda stayed and took a nap. That night we went to santa ritas with Lauren and had ritas, then just chilled at home watching SNL and How I Met Your Mother...Melin finished the whole first season! Sunday we watched more himym and then went to kerbey. When Melin left I cracked down and studied for my test, which I kicked ass on, and my project.

This week is Sarah's birthday!!! The big 22! We're going to Trudy's which will be a good time. Then it is time for spring break!!!!!!! WEEEEEE!!!!

Hello, March

Hard to believe the month of March is already upon us. Spring break is only 2 weeks away and graduation is fast approaching as well. Now a recap of last week. A group of us went downtown on fat Tuesday, which was fun until "the incident" which will probably be remembered forever. Then Wednesday, I failed to bake anything for Lost and did not even put up decorations, instead Lisa and I ate chinese food while everyone else chilled around us...Lost Fail. Friday we went to see slumdog millionaire. Amazing amazing movie, I absolutely loved it! It definitely deserved all those awards. The rest of the weekend was spent making slideshows/youtube videos and shopping for the dreaded bathing suit. Now its time to make a mad dash for class...Au Revoir!

Mardi Gras

This weekend I took a road trip with Jill and Christine to Louisiana to go to Mardi Gras in the only place to do it..New Orleans! On the way down we did a pit stop at a random casino where Jill won 16 dollars..pretty sweet for slots. Then when we made it there we went to get cajun food. I had amazing seafood gumbo, but I wish I would have gotten the crawfish etoufee because it was amazing! I need to learn how to cook these things...my new goal! The next morning we woke up early and got delicious beignets and then met up with the boys. We went to Orleans St. where most of the college kids were. Jill and I were quite upset not to go to Bourbon all day, but it was made better once we got some alcohol in us. The parade was awesome, the floats are so intricate and amazing! I caught a bunch of beads, including a huge disc one that is pretty awesome. The guy behind me even gave me his pink beads because he said they weren't his color and he saw me get sad about not getting some of the beads. After not eating all day Jill and I felt really sick from not eating, but we eventually got some random crappy diner food. We then proceeded to Bourbon St. for the real party. It was soooo much fun! I loved all the people and all the beads. I got a few awkward requests including a guy at eye level trying to get me to flash, a guy that didn't want me to flash, but instead ask that I make out with Jill and then one guy who told me I guess things really do come bigger in Texas in response to my boobs. I think my best catch were beads that had a lacy thong attached that says lucky me. It started raining halfway through, but I still loved it. The next morning we ate at this great place where I had a delicious crab and cream cheese omelet. And of course I got some tx toast and Canes sauce to go for the ride home. Why do we not have a Canes in Austin? Now I am completely behind on schoolwork since I had a paper due monday and tomorrow I have two papers and a test. Oh well. Here is a pic of me and all my beads. Hopefully we go downtown tomorrow to celebrate the actual day of Mardi Gras!
